Raw Faith wins Human Spirit Award at Nashville Film Festival

In May of 2009, Raw Faith made its debut and won this prestigious award. Judges said the documentary "gives us a stunning and candid portrait of the power and value of exploring just who we are and where we're going. We, the viewer are better for it."

In June, the film opened in Portland, OR, Marilyn's home city, with three showings having a sold-out house. ______________

The Rev. Dr. Marilyn Sewell retired in 2009 after serving 17 years as Senior Minister of the First Unitarian Church in Portland, Oregon. Here she gained a national reputation for sermons that offered both inspiration and comfort, sparked by her remarkable sense of humor and the honesty of her own spiritual journey. The congregation more than doubled during her time as minister.

Sewell
She has studied broadly and has master's degrees in English literature, social work, and divinity, plus a Ph.D. in Theology and Literature from the Graduate Theological Union and the University of California at Berkeley.

Recently a film, Raw Faith, portraying her spiritual journey as she transitioned out of ministry and found herself in a surprising new love relationship, premiered in Nashville, TN. Produced by Same Boat Productions and directed by Peter Wiedensmith, the film has a strong spirtual theme. Moved by the film, the popular recording artist Sheryl Crow volunteered to write the film's theme song, "Love Will Remain."
